Softball Season in the Full Swing of Things

The Williamsburg Academy Softball season is in full swing. The Varsity girls began its season with a preseason tournament in Pleasant Hill. They played two games the first day of the tournament against Carvers Bay and St. James. They won against Carvers Bay and lost to St. James. Brayleigh Matthews hit a home run against Carvers Bay. On Saturday, they lost to Hannah Pamplico 4-5 and won against Johnsonville 9-3 in the first match up and played Johnsonville again with a close one losing by only 1 point. Nealy Lamb hit a home run against Johnsonville.

The first official game of the season took place on March 1st at The Corral against Lee Academy. JV fell short with a score of 22-10. The Varsity team won 6-1. Senior catcher for the team, Billie Easler said, “Our pitchers played great and placed it where we wanted it perfectly and our infield and outfield backed them up very well.”

On March 8th, the Junior Varsity team lost 22-4.The team has many young players and are constantly practicing and improving their game. The Varsity team run-ruled Kings 15-0 in the 3rd inning. Krislyn Hanna pitched a great game for the team. Both teams have been practicing hard and are improving everyday. Team captain, Billie Easler, said, “It’s an amazing feeling when practice pays off and you get to enjoy it with an amazing team like ours.”

JV played a hard fought game against Carvers Bay on March 10th with a close one 10-9. Krisalyn Hanna pitched a great game.

On March 15th, the varsity girls took the road to Conway to face off against Conway Christian Academy. The team won 17-0. The starting pitcher was Krisalyn Hanna.

On Friday, March 18th, the girls were back at The Corral. Junior Varsity won 14-15. Morgan Lane was the starting pitcher. Also pitching was Audrey Wadford and Ann Hadley Sutton. It was a tough game, but their hitting pulled them through. Varsity won 15-0. Krisalyn Hanna pitched the whole game and did a great job. Billie Easler hit her first homerun and Abbie Mccants hit two homeruns.

The varsity girls are undefeated 5-0 and JV is 1-5. Everyone is invited to come out and support these girls.
