Each week we recognize and honor a WA alumnus. This week is our 1993 graduate Mr. Michael “Kevin” Bass. Kevin grew up on Green Street in Kingstree, SC. His mother Ellen Bass and Aunt Emmie Lou Kellahan taught at WA when he attended. He graduated as Valedictorian in his class. After graduation, he attended Clemson University and graduated from there in 1997 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He then went to graduate school in Boston (Cambridge), MA at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and received a MS in Mechanical Engineering in 1999.He started his career with a software company based out of San Francisco that designed and built enterprise systems for many different industries like Goldman Sachs, Health South, Southern Company, Allstate, Progressive, etc. and a few other industries.
He has lived in Atlanta, GA since 2000 and married Stephanie Hanson in 2010 in Bluffton, SC at Palmetto Bluff. They have three children, Christopher Scott Bass (10), Catherine Elizabeth Bass (8), and Charlotte Anne Bass (6). They also have a petite mini goldendoodle named Scout (1.5). Their kids keep them busy with their activities including ballet, baseball, chess, gymnastics, and karate.
Since 2001, he has worked for a company called Manhattan Associates which provides solutions to help companies enable commerce with customers in many ways like providing commerce systems, transportations solutions and operating warehouses. He currently oversees a global team that helps clients conduct commerce in the many ways customers choose (like Buy Online Pick Up in Store, etc.). His clients include many brands that people know and love including but not limited to Nike, Under Armor, Michael Kors, Versace, J. Crew, Kendra Scott, Victoria’s Secret, Lilly Pulitzer, etc. He has had the pleasure to travel all over the globe and meet people and experience different cultures in countries like Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Germany, Holland, Japan, United Kingdom, Uruguay, etc.
In addition to his current employment, he and three friends started their own company in 2006 providing recreational sports leagues for young professionals. Their main sport is kickball for adults, but they also have offered dodgeball, cornhole, pickleball, etc. Their company has leagues in 34 cities nationwide with around 40,000 players each year. Their primary website is www.gokickball.com He is also an owner of single-family (townhouse and house) and multi-family (apartments and trailer parks) rental properties since 2010.
