Guinn Nexsen graduated from Williamsburg Academy in 1987.
In her senior year, she was awarded the Jeanette Parnell Award for her tenacity, courage, and perseverance.
After high school, she attended Williamsburg Technical College and received an Associate of Arts degree. She then became an EMT and worked for Williamsburg County EMS for 10 years.
In 2015, she was diagnosed with oral cancer and given a 5% chance to live. After multiple surgeries involving the removal of her tongue, the floor of her mouth, and jaw, she was told she would never be able to talk or eat regular food. However, once again, she refused to let cancer define her.
In 2017, she was honored to be recognized as the Williamsburg Academy Alumni of the Year- again for her tenacity, courage, and perseverance.
Guinn Nexsen serves as an outstanding pillar of strength and courage to all who know her. Today she adds to those virtues her deep faith and trust in her God and Creator. She enjoys every minute of every day.
Even though she cannot eat and has been dependent on a feeding tube for 10 years, she loves to bake! Every day, you can find her in her kitchen singing and baking cakes, tarts, cheese muffins, sausage & egg muffins, and always trying something new!
